Torchwood's vidded!
After endless waiting for the final export, I'm once again in the process of uploading my finished new vid. :D The export never depended on luck this much before. A few attempts and a lot of crossed fingers (that there wouldn't be some bad frames this time) later, I only hope that I haven't screwed up my codecs completely with deinstalling, reinstalling and double-installing XviD. And that I didn't miss any displaced frames in the final version.

Despite all of the technical difficulties, I enjoyed making this one very much because it felt very different. I was going for 'different' (ok, and dark and depressing), but in the end that also describes the process. Maybe it had something to do with the song and obviously its influence on the vid, maybe it was because I hadn't used the character and most of the material before. *shrugs* BTW, this was the first time that the beginning of the vid was one of the last things I did.

Anyway, my point is, thank you once again, [info]dune_drd for reccing this to me! I think I was also influenced by your character analysis of Jack a while back. *g* Well, there's nothing I can do now but wait if you like the result... Oh and this time I can also thank [info]angela_caida (that's what you get for getting yourself an account ;) ) for pointing out the editing choices she didn't like. Don't know if you'll notice, but I changed most of it accordingly. (hey, a whole paragraph about special thanks!)

Enjoy! And why is it, that no matter at what point I upload to YouTube, processing's never finished when I'm done writing?

Excellent, excellent, EXCELLENT!
The editing is fantastic and adds tons to the dark theme (it IS dark). The vid plot is solid, you picked your clips well (plus, I am a sucker for comparisons, like the part with the dust from Torchwood and from DW). It could have been a great Jack angst vid even without the 'telling Gwen' part. However, it does make it less angsty, in a way. Gwen softens our Jack ;). Mm... wait, no, it makes it more angsty. Haven't decided yet. A tragedy can become worse if you tell someone, sometimes. OK, now I'm just babbling.

You're becoming quite a favourite in my vidders list. Keep it going, sweetheart.

Zohar.

p.s.
The link to YouTube isn't working properly.
Crystal: hope[info]blue_crystal03 on November 12th, 2006 12:05 am (UTC)
PS, too: Deleted and reuploaded at YouTube and now it's working. No idea, what the problem was, but when I checked a few hours after I uploaded it was still processing. For a moment there I thought they were now checking the content of all uploads and approve them manually...

...
I'm not done yet.
Rec + detailed feedback, kind of.
NOW i'm done.
Sorry, I just really loved it.

Oh, thanks heaps for the review the rec and everything! I'm so glad/relieved, that you could follow the plot and didn't find the inverting distracting. You never know how your choices come across if you've watched them play out far too often. :D

I'm definitely pro Jack telling someone (looks like Gwen at the moment but someone else could find out) about his past. Torchwood doesn't struck me as the cuddly bunch so more angst waiting there. ;) - uhm, you probably noticed I tend to babble a bit, too... sometimes?

Just wow for the vidders list! *blushes*
You know, I am currently thinking about entering a vid for the NFVAs and/or FNVAs... found them in your journal, I think, and they seem to be a good choice for that.
Stephanie: Torchwood - Captain Jack 1[info]martoufmarty on November 11th, 2006 07:41 pm (UTC)
Oh wow! That was absolutely brilliant!

I'm here on [info]bunnythenavia's rec, and I can't say anything more than what she said.

Teh cool.

I'm going to rec this in my journal now.
Crystal: retro[info]blue_crystal03 on November 12th, 2006 12:18 am (UTC)
Wow, thanks for another rec... and for enjoying the vid, but that's kinda included in the rec! Main reason's, when I checked my mailbox and the comment mails started flooding in, I actually was confused for a moment if I had posted to a comm already. So unexpected. :)

Funny part is, I wanted to dig through your journal for a while now. I know a few vids of yours, but only from your website. Stumbled across your journal by accident... hopefully, I'll have the time to watch some vids again in the near future and when I do, you can expect a few comments from me over there. *g*

MartoufMarty Just recced this. OMFG! I didn't expect to like a vid done to this song BUT OH MY GOD! I am in love this this so much!
Crystal: smirk[info]blue_crystal03 on November 12th, 2006 12:24 am (UTC)
Ironically, I'm not a fan of Linkin Park either, but converted myself to loving the song during editing, too. First Nick Lachey, now Linkin Park... who's next? *g* Oh, and thanks for the comment, I'm still gobsmacked by all the enthused reations!

That's X-O-F to you, buddy!!!: Captain Jack - Dirty Little Secret Smile[info]xof1013 on November 11th, 2006 09:45 pm (UTC)
Wow - no really, WOW!!!

That was amazing - the editing kicks royal rump, darlin'.... I'm definately recommending this to others.

Thank you! Especially with all the editing problems I had, it's such a relief it turned out just fine. And wow, another rec! (is it just me or am I saying 'wow' a lot at the moment? - seriously, I'm still dumbstruck at all the comments)

A *Dark* Captain Jack Harkness retrospective

Oh my. Recommended by [info]martoufmarty and I'm sure glad she did. This is fantastic :D And I don't usually like fanvids. Great job xD I loved it.
Crystal: telescope[info]blue_crystal03 on November 12th, 2006 12:49 am (UTC)
Thank you for the comment, so great that you loved this one! I'm just just kinda surprised and curious about you usually not linking fanvids...?

Dune[info]dune_drd on November 12th, 2006 01:10 am (UTC)
And you just have to post that to [info]torch_wood and [info]galactic_conman as well
Crystal: tip[info]blue_crystal03 on November 12th, 2006 01:21 am (UTC)
I was about to go offline, so yay for timing! Phew, now that takes the weight off my shoulders (perhaps I should do more request-like things to get used to this ;) ). So, yeah, I'm very happy you loved it! :D

As for comms, I was planning on x-posting to [Unknown LJ tag]dwfanvids and [info]torchwood_files. [info]torch_wood accepts vids, too? And then [info]galactic_conman... Seems I have some work to do tomorrow. And some friend lists to spam. *g* As for the delay, I was waiting for YouTube to finish processing before posting to the comms and was hoping for your reation first.
Dune: Jack Time Agent[info]dune_drd on November 12th, 2006 01:35 am (UTC)
I was absolutely certain you'd do something wonderful with it, and see? I was right :)
Crystal: smirk[info]blue_crystal03 on November 12th, 2006 05:35 pm (UTC)
Aw, so nice of you. :D

Don't think I'll have time to vid for a while (with the flat, my FH-project and a lot of things for the SFC still waiting to be done), but if you want to rec something else that fits this perfectly go ahead with it. :) And no, I haven't forgotten about your other rec. Knowledge's still to little, though.
Dune[info]dune_drd on November 12th, 2006 07:45 pm (UTC)
You know that you don't have to do it only because I suggested it, right?
Crystal: tip[info]blue_crystal03 on November 13th, 2006 12:23 am (UTC)
Oh yes, I know, but when I already get some ideas in my head without even knowing much about old school DW, it's hard to forget about it. ;) As it is, I have no idea if I'll ever be able to do it. Only 10 of the old episodes are marked as watched on my list (plus the "WHOOO AAAM III?!" movie *g*).
Dune[info]dune_drd on November 13th, 2006 06:31 am (UTC)
Mail me if you want to have something in particulaer (Christmas is approaching after all), you know how full my harddrive is, don't you? ;)
Crystal[info]blue_crystal03 on November 13th, 2006 12:25 pm (UTC)
I was going to come back to your Christmas post as soon as I'd worked out, how much time I could spend on making you something. I'm almost sure your harddrive could come into play when I'm pondering my own list. :)
ain't no party like a dalek party: tw; nothing left here[info]arefadedaway on November 12th, 2006 04:08 am (UTC)
Here by [info]martoufmarty's rec, and - I don't even know what to say. I'm blown away, dude. You had me riveted from the first frame, and I didn't expect to like a video to this song, or that someone could pull it off. And you did. It's absolutely astonishing. The editing, the graphic/color changes, the mirroring clips, the dark theme and how well it encompassed Jack's story and, as cheesy as it sounds, the ironic tragedy behind his immortality...holy crap. I'm not sure I can even leave a decent review.

*worships, pledges first born child to you*
Crystal: Torchwood[info]blue_crystal03 on November 12th, 2006 06:28 pm (UTC)
Well, IMO you left a pretty decent review. ;) Thanks for that! I wasn't so sure if the color changes and the blinking during the instrumental parts weren't a bit too much.

The darkness of Jack's past only fully hit me during editing. He's really got a dark backstory even though I'm constantly forgetting that he got part of his memories erased. No surprise there that he doeen't trust people easily anymore.

Fantastic! A friend of mine just introduced me to the wonders of fanvid- I used to just pass them by. I'm so glad I downloaded this! Just so excellently done; the editing was superb! :-D

Peace, Ghani

This is absolutely gorgeous, thank you. Linkin Park can be hard to do with a fresh twist, but you've more than accomplished it here -- this is perfect.
Crystal: smirk[info]blue_crystal03 on November 13th, 2006 12:32 am (UTC)
Thanks so much! :) I heard and kinda know there are a lot of vids to that song out there, but noticed, I know only one. *shrugs* So glad to hear that I didn't just unknowingly repeated what others have done already. :D

Elf: ANTM_Anchal[info]texan_elf on November 24th, 2006 05:24 am (UTC)
I loved your "In the End" Cap'n Jack vid! Of course I already loved Linkin Park's song and Jack from DW. I hope SciFi or BBCAmerica airs Torchwood before too long so I can see it. Your vid is wonderfully set to ItE and the seemless transitions between bits is superb. Brava!
Crystal: jackbox[info]blue_crystal03 on November 25th, 2006 12:58 am (UTC)
Thank you! :)

You haven't seen anything of Torchwood yet? I hope I haven't spoiled you too much now with the vid. Maybe there'll be worldwide tv one day, so we won't have to complain about delayed airings of episodes anymore. ;)
Elf: Torchwood_Santa Jack[info]texan_elf on November 30th, 2006 03:50 am (UTC)
No worries! I unlike what seems to be a lot of other people don't mind being spoiled. For me it just whets the appetite for what's to come and sharpens the brain as you try to put things in context or figure out what they mean.

Worldwide airings would be heaven. :)
Crystal: telescope[info]blue_crystal03 on December 2nd, 2006 12:31 am (UTC)
I don't mind a bit of spoiling to wet the appetite either, but too much just, errr, spoils it for me. Like knowing entire dialogues, all the twists and endings.

Now we only need to convince those rights owners... and hey, it's educational. Some people might even learn English when shows would run worldwide.
